Envision a college where truth is discovered through self-education. Right here, before you stands Sri Venkateswara College, or “Venky” as it’s affectionately known. Sri Venkateswara College isn’t just another Delhi University college. It carries a unique legacy, born from the vision of three remarkable individuals: Smt. Durgabai Deshmukh, Shri K. L. Rao, and Shri C. Anna Rao. In 1961, they saw a need for a college that catered to students from South India, and with the support of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Sri Venkateswara College became a reality. Initially housed in a school building on Rouse Avenue, Sri Venkateswara College began with just 271 students and 13 faculty members. Imagine the intimate learning environment in those early days. Can you picture Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, India’s former president, laying the foundation stone for this very campus in 1961? The college officially moved to its current location in Dhaula Kuan in 1971. Sri Venkateswara College boasts a vibrant campus life. The annual cultural fest, NEXUS, is a highlight, attracting students from all over the university. From rock shows featuring bands like Parikrama and Indian Ocean to celebrity appearances by artists like Kailash Kher and Shankar Mahadevan, NEXUS has become a legendary event. Sri Venkateswara College also holds a special connection to its roots. An idol of Venkateswara Swamy graces the campus and is worshipped regularly, offering a glimpse into the college’s South Indian heritage. Beyond academics, Sri Venkateswara College is home to a diverse student body. Students come from every corner of India and even from abroad. The college also boasts a rich alumni network, including notable figures like cricketer Rishabh Pant and chess grandmaster Tania Sachdev. Sri Venkateswara College has evolved significantly since its humble beginnings. From its initial focus on language courses, it now offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in arts, sciences, and commerce. Sri Venkateswara College has garnered recognition for its academic excellence. It has been ranked among the top colleges in India by NIRF and boasts a NAAC grade of A+. As you stand here, at the gates of Sri Venkateswara College, remember its story. It is a story of vision, growth, and a commitment to truth through self-education.
