Ever wondered where postgraduate students at the University of Macau find on-campus accommodation? It’s here at the Postgraduate House. Known as PGH, it offers living services to UM postgraduate students. Let’s step inside and discover what makes this place tick.
PGH provides fully furnished, air-conditioned rooms. Students need to bring their personal necessities. Beddings like pillows and blankets are not included.
Public facilities are available. These include a TV room, a study room, and a small indoor sports venue. Only PGH residents can use these spaces.
Demand for space is high. The University can only guarantee accommodation for new PhD and Master’s students in their first year. A key condition is that they must not have a residence in Macao. This guarantee lasts from their initial registration semester to the end of the following semester. Students beyond this period are unlikely to be offered accommodation. They must seek off-campus housing.
Off-campus options exist. Two-bedroom apartments in urban areas range from MOP6,000 to MOP15,000 per month. The cost varies based on size and location.
Application periods are specific. Summer stay and first-semester applications occur in March. The second semester applications take place in November. New students who have accepted UM’s offer receive email notifications. These emails detail the PGH application process.
All postgraduate students must apply within the given timeframe. Late applications are not considered. No exceptions are made, even if students accept penalties. The Student Resources Section’s decisions are final.
PGH also has a presence in Hengqin. The Postgraduate House in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone offers accommodation. It prioritizes first-year postgraduate students enrolled in programs at the University of Macau Science and Education Base. The accommodation guarantee mirrors that of the main campus.
The PGH-HQ offers different room types. These include single rooms and shared rooms. Apartments feature layouts with two or three bedrooms. Each unit includes a living room, dining area, kitchen, and balcony. Essential amenities are provided. These cover beds, air conditioning, refrigerators, stoves, boilers and washing machines.
Location is a key advantage. PGH-HQ sits in the core of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. It is a short walk from the University of Macau Science and Education Base. Free shuttle buses connect it to the Hengqin Port and the University of Macau’s main campus.
Comprehensive services enhance community life. PGH-HQ boasts lawns, gardens, and sports venues. Professional property management ensures a safe environment. Nearby restaurants and shops add to the convenience.
PGH provides more than just a place to sleep. It fosters a supportive community for postgraduate students. It helps them thrive during their studies at the University of Macau. Remember that email address sao.pgh@um.edu.mo. You never know when you might need it.
