What would it be like to own a four-acre farm right on the edge of Brisbane? That dream was a reality for many ex-servicemen and post-war immigrants in 1944, when land in what is now Marsden was subdivided and sold as the affordable “Kingston Park” estate. Life was rugged back then. Imagine no cleared roads, no running water, and electricity a distant dream. The promise of a fresh start, however, was enough to draw people in. Early settlers like Mr. A.T. Wright, who lived in a tent while hauling water from Scrubby Creek, showed the true pioneer spirit of those early days in Marsden. Despite the hardships, the residents banded together as the Kingston Park Progress Association. They petitioned for basic amenities, even relocating an old shed from Sunnybank to build a progress hall. That same community spirit lives on in Marsden today, a testament to the enduring legacy of those who dared to dream of a life on the edge of the city.
