In 1967, a small group began meeting for cottage prayer meetings. This seemingly insignificant act would blossom into the Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church we stand before today. Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church has a rich history. It’s a story of transformation and unwavering faith. Originally known as the Independent Presbyterian Church of Montgomery, the church was chartered in 1968 with 94 members. They initially held services in the Montgomery Athletic building. The congregation purchased property on Ferguson Avenue in 1969. A new facility was dedicated in 1976. The church underwent a series of affiliations and name changes, reflecting its evolving identity. It joined the National Presbyterian Church, later the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), before becoming independent. Finally, in 1978, it was officially chartered as Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church. The church has continued to grow and adapt. In 1994, a Family Life Center was added. This provided much-needed space for Sunday school classes and other activities. A sanctuary renovation was completed in 2013, further enhancing the church’s facilities. From its humble beginnings, Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church has always been missions-minded. It supported missionaries even in its early days. Today, the church supports over 20 missionary families around the world and within the United States. The church offers a wide range of activities for all ages. This includes groups for men, women, youth, children, and senior adults. Ferguson Avenue Baptist Church continues to be a vibrant part of the community. It is a place where people can come together to worship, learn, and connect.
