It all started in a double garage. Yes, you heard that right, a double garage in the Sunny Side area of Houston. Eight people gathered in that unassuming space on March 8, 1972, to lay the foundation for a church that would soon become a pillar of the community. This is Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, a testament to faith and resilience.
Holy Trinity has a rich history, one that mirrors the growth and evolution of Houston itself. From humble beginnings in that garage, the church moved to a storefront on Stassen in Sunny Side. It was here that Holy Trinity began to flourish, experiencing a period of remarkable growth. But tragedy struck in May of 1973 when a fire ravaged the storefront. The church, still young and vulnerable, was forced to find refuge in the home of its pastor. But as the saying goes, what doesn’t break you, makes you stronger.
The fire couldn’t extinguish the spirit of Holy Trinity. The church rose from the ashes, finding a new home at 14317 South Post Oak, a storefront location where it continued to grow. Then, in 1979, Holy Trinity purchased a former liquor store at 14513 South Post Oak, its current location.
This old liquor store wasn’t just a building; it was a blank canvas for the church to paint its future. In 1983, the building was remodeled, and a sanctuary was constructed. For years, Holy Trinity worshipped and thrived within these walls. Over time, the church expanded, adding a new sanctuary to the same campus. Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church is more than just a place of worship. It’s a community, a family, a spiritual haven where faith, resilience, and growth continue to prevail.
