大阪市立敷津小学校 began in 1874. It started as a small school in the early Meiji era. The school has transformed over the years. Its initial name was quite a mouthful. It was the Fifth Elementary School of the First Minor District of the Sixth Major District of the Third Middle School District. It was then located in the village of Kizukuri.

The school’s early days were humble. Classes were held in a rented temple building. The school moved to its own building in 1881. This was located in Kizukuri village. Over time the school changed its name several times. These changes reflected administrative and educational reforms.

In 1886 it became Kizukuri Elementary School. By 1893 it had added a higher elementary division. Its name changed to Kizukuri Higher Elementary School. The late 1890s saw Osaka city incorporate Kizukuri village. The school’s name changed again. It became Osaka City Kizukuri Higher Elementary School.

Student numbers grew. A second elementary school opened in the area in 1904. This new school was Osaka City Daikoku Elementary School. The original school discontinued its higher elementary division at that time. It was renamed Osaka City Kizukuri First Elementary School. In 1911 the school moved to its present location. This location was in Shikitsu town. A higher elementary division was re-established in 1922. Its name changed to Osaka City Shikitsu Higher Elementary School.

The school faced adversity in 1934. A typhoon caused flooding and damaged the wooden school building. In 1941 the school became Shikitsu National School. This change accompanied national education reforms.

World War II brought more challenges. In 1944 students were evacuated to Shiga Prefecture for safety. Air raids in 1945 destroyed the school building. Classes were suspended. The school merged with Daikoku National School.

After the war the school building served as the local ward office. It later became a temporary campus for another school.

In 1953 大阪市立敷津小学校 reopened. It regained its independence. Since then the school has focused on educational research. It has become known for its work in hearing impairment education. It also conducts research in mathematics.

大阪市立敷津小学校 emphasizes safety. A tragic incident in 1997 led to the creation of a local safety network. Every month the school practices safety drills.

The school also promotes international understanding. It engages in exchanges with the nearby Osaka Chinese School. Today 大阪市立敷津小学校 continues its mission. It enriches the lives of its students. It also contributes to the local community.

And with that, our time at 大阪市立敷津小学校 comes to an end. From humble beginnings to its resilience. This school reflects Osaka’s enduring spirit.
