Eleven thousand five hundred. That’s the capacity of Malahide Cricket Club Ground. Can you imagine the roar of the crowd?
Welcome to Malahide Cricket Club a sporting institution steeped in history. Founded in 1861 it sits proudly within the Malahide Castle demesne. It’s more than just a cricket ground. It’s a vital part of the community. The club boasts over 400 members playing year-round.
Malahide Cricket Club isn’t just about local matches. In September 2013 it hosted its first international match. Ireland faced England. England won. But there’s a fascinating detail. England’s captain Eoin Morgan scored 124 not out. He played on this very ground in his youth. Talk about a homecoming.
The club’s achievements are impressive. They’ve won the Irish Senior Cup the Ladies Senior Cup and the Pilkington Plate. They’ve even achieved success in the Leinster Senior League and the Alan Murray T20 Cup. A testament to their enduring legacy. This is a club rich in trophies.
Malahide Cricket Club isn’t just about the past though. Twenty teams call this ground home. Five senior men’s teams two ladies’ teams a development XI twelve youth teams and a Taverners side. A diverse and vibrant club for all ages and abilities.
The ground itself is a spectacle. Temporary grandstands allow for those large crowds. It’s Ireland’s largest cricket venue. The ground also nearly hosted South Africa A in 2012. Unfortunately those games were cancelled. Still it speaks volumes about the stature of Malahide Cricket Club.
Think about it. This field has witnessed thrilling victories agonizing defeats and moments of pure sporting magic. It’s a place where history is made and legends are born. It’s a place where the past meets the present. Malahide Cricket Club is more than a sporting venue. It’s a vibrant heart of the community. It’s a place where memories are forged on the field and in the stands. It’s a place to remember. A place to celebrate. A place to play.
