Decades of dedication echo within these walls. We are standing before Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church. This church is not just a building. It is a testament to faith and community.
Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church stands as a beacon of hope. It is a place where love is preached. The church reaches out beyond its walls. Its mission is deeply embedded in its very name.
Many see this world as permanent. However, the church teaches that we are pilgrims passing through. We are on a progressive journey. We strive to be better and more Christ-like. The goal is to see our Father face to face. As Philippians says let the mind of Christ be in you.
Pastor Donnell Townsend leads this loving church. He came to Pilgrim Progressive seeking a date with his future wife. She invited him to church in 1986. He has been there ever since.
Before becoming a pastor Donnell Townsend was a hospital corpsman. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy. He later worked in nursing. He saw the medical profession as another way to minister. After a year in Iraq with the U.S. Marines God called him to a different purpose. It was still nursing but spiritual instead of physical.
Donnell’s wife Sheila is his helpmate. She has been a blessing in his life and ministry. Together they have one daughter.
Pastor Townsend finds guidance in Tony Evans’s Kingdom Man. The book emphasizes men taking their rightful role in the family. It is a compass for those who are lost.
Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church believes in heaven and hell. Jesus said I go to prepare a place for you. The church teaches that Jesus will return for us. It is God’s wish that no one perishes. The church wants no one to go to hell.
Living for Christ through the Bible guarantees heaven. Those not living as God wants will face hell. This is the faith preached and taught here.
Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church is more than bricks and mortar. It is a community of believers. They are striving to progress toward a closer relationship with God. They extend love and support to all. Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church welcomes everyone to join their journey.
