Tucked away in National City, the Bible Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to faith, family, and fellowship. Bible Baptist Church began its journey in the heart of the Philippines. Reverend Fred and Mrs. Lorene Null, answering a divine call, arrived in the Philippines in 1953. They dedicated 25 years to spreading the gospel, establishing 25 churches. A stroke and heart surgery forced the Nulls to leave the Philippines. They found themselves in San Diego, home to a large Filipino-American community. Seeing a need, they started a mission in a small building beside Calvary Baptist Church. This marked the birth of the Filipino Bible Baptist Mission of National City. In 1982, Larry Obero, a sailor who found Christ, joined the mission. He later became its pastor. The growing congregation moved to Chula Vista in 1992, merging with Grace Baptist Temple. They became the Filipino and American Bible Baptist Church. A decade later, in 2003, the church returned to its original location in National City, taking over the entire Calvary Baptist Church property. Renamed Bible Baptist Church, it aimed to embrace a wider community. Under Pastor Obero’s leadership, it grew from 50 to 500 members. In 2008, the church sent out Carlos Serrano to establish the Bible Baptist Church of Delano. Years later, Pastor Serrano returned to National City. He assumed the pastorate in 2018 after Pastor Obero’s retirement. Today, Bible Baptist Church thrives, radiating warmth and a deep commitment to scripture. It’s a place where the King James Version illuminates spiritual truths, and families connect through programs for all ages. Members rave about the pastor’s inspiring messages and the delicious meals served after services. It’s more than a church; it’s a family united by faith.
