“Underrated” barely scratches the surface when describing Achasan Ridge. This mountain stretches a mere 295.7 meters. It bridges Seoul and Guri. Yet, its views punch far above its weight class. Welcome to Achasan Ridge.

Achasan was collectively referred to with Yongmasan and Mangusan as one during the Joseon Dynasty.

We are about to embark on a mini-adventure that offers an accessible escape and some smart-aleck knowledge about Seoul’s hidden gems. Even beginners can enjoy hiking here.

First, let’s talk vantage points. Forget those crowded tourist traps. Achasan Ridge provides a panorama encompassing the Han River. To your left, the mighty Lotte Tower rises. N Seoul Tower graces your right. You get the best of Seoul’s iconic skyline without fighting through hordes of tourists.

The mountain’s trails are part of the extensive Seoul Trail. The complete section through Yongmasan and Achasan is 12.6 km long. It typically takes about five hours to complete.

Now, for a bit of insider information: Sunset here is legendary. The transformation is breathtaking as daylight fades. Lotte Tower slowly lights up. City lights twinkle to life.

Many hikers start their journey from Gwangnaru Station. From there they pass by the Achasan Administrative Office. This office is an ideal starting point. It provides directional signs, trail maps, and essential facilities.

There are two main routes to the Achasan summit. The adventurous souls among you might prefer the Rock Wall trail. It’s a steeper, more direct path offering a unique rock formation. Sturdy shoes are recommended here, especially after rain. For a more leisurely climb, take the Seoul Trail. This well-maintained path gradually ascends through the forest.

Along the trail, keep an eye out for orange ribbons tied to the trees. They are guiding hikers along Seoul Trail course.

You will find the Goguryeojeong Pavilion. This is a worthy stop offering a magnificent view of the rock wall. Hikers often pause here. They take photos with the brightly coloured pavilion.

Further along, Sunrise Square awaits. As its name suggests, it is another popular spot. It offers great views of Seoul. There is even a solar energy mobile phone charger.

From Achasan Mountain, you can see the Han River and Lotte World Tower.

At the summit of Achasan Ridge, you’ll find a simple wooden block. It marks your accomplishment of reaching this Seoul peak. From here, you can continue to Yongmasan Mountain or return to the Achasan Administrative Office.

Before you leave, consider visiting Achasan Ecological Park. It is located next to the Achasan Administrative Office. This charming park features a pond, fountain, and seasonal flowers.

So, as you stand here, remember that Achasan Ridge is more than just a hike. It is a chance to experience Seoul from a different perspective.
