Suddenly, the salty tang of the Aegean fills the air as we approach the Mediterranian maritime academy. This academy prepares the next generation of seafarers. It stands here in Piraeus a beacon for those called to the sea.

The Mediterranian maritime academy is located at 140 Kolokotroni. Its postal code is 18536 Piraeus Greece. You can reach them at +30 216 0044880. Or you can email them at piraeus.academy@nauticalacademy.org.

But what does this academy actually do? The Mediterranian maritime academy in Piraeus works with “Blue Navigator”. It offers studies in Greece. It aims to shape skilled officers for the commercial navy.

The Mediterranian maritime academy also has a sister academy. It was founded in 2016 in Limassol Cyprus.

Graduation can happen in 16 months. Then comes 12 months of service at sea. This is on IMO White List ships. This shows the academy’s commitment to quality training.

The academy also provides Certificates of Competency. These come from the Deputy Ministry of Cyprus Shipping. The diplomas are recognized by all flags. This is a crucial detail for aspiring mariners.

For those aiming for Chief Mate or 2nd Engineer diplomas listen carefully. You need 12 months of service at sea. This must be as a Second Mate and 3rd Engineer. The studies for these roles happen in Greece. They are at the COSMOS Nautical Training Centre. This happens in Piraeus and Chios Island. Promotions have been continuous in Greece since 2014.

Interestingly no additional study is needed. This is to get the Captain and Chief Engineer diploma.

The Mediterranian maritime academy is an advanced nautical education center. It features a Class Approved Simulation Centre. This means top-tier training.

The academy offers training programs. These are for “OFFICER IN CHARGE OF A NAVIGATIONAL WATCH”. Also for “OFFICER IN CHARGE OF AN ENGINEERING WATCH”. These are accredited by Cyprus. They lead to a Certificate of Competency in three years. Two years of study plus one year of sea service are needed. This aligns with IMO standards.

The Mediterranian maritime academy boasts a fully equipped training facility. It includes TRANSAS Simulators. These simulate Bridge Engine ECDIS and Liquid Cargo Handling. There is even GMDSS training.

As a training center the Mediterranian maritime academy provides STCW courses. These are for students and seafarers in Cyprus. Courses include BRM ERM ECDIS Safety courses Medical Security and Tanker courses. The list is extensive.

The Centre is accredited by the Cyprus Maritime Authority. It is also certified by LRQA for ISO 9001:2015.

The Mediterranian maritime academy is more than just a school. It is a gateway to a life at sea. It is a place where dreams of command are forged. Here in Piraeus the legacy of Greek seafaring continues.
