From the sands of time rises Houshayu. Its name whispers of a past etched in the landscape. Picture this: a vast expanse of sand dunes. The Yuan dynasty saw a settlement here. They named it Shayu Sand Ravine. Its concave landscape and sandy soil gave it that name. The area was divided during the Ming Dynasty. Houshayu emerged as the ancestor of the town we see today.

Houshayu is more than just a name. It’s a story of evolution. It’s a story of a small settlement that grew into a bustling town. It sits in Shunyi District on Beijing’s western edge. It borders Gaoliying Town to the north. Nanfaxin Town and Capital Airport Subdistrict lie to the east. Konggang Subdistrict is to its south. Beiqijia Town borders it to the west. Houshayu’s boundaries are well defined. They encompass a significant area. In 2020 Houshayu’s population was recorded as 74841 people. That’s a substantial community.

The area’s history is rich. Records chronicle Houshayu’s administrative changes. From its early days as part of Shunyi County it transitioned several times. The Houshayu Township then the Houshayu People’s Commune emerged. Eventually it became the Houshayu Area we know. This reflects the area’s evolution. It reflects its shifting political affiliations over the years. The area is composed of sixteen subdivisions. Six are communities ten are villages each with its own unique character. Each subdivision has its own unique history.

Today Houshayu boasts a modern infrastructure. The Houshayu Station on Beijing Subway Line 15 serves the area. It connects Houshayu to the broader Beijing network. Pictures show the area’s development. The images show the 7th Shunyi Flower Exhibition. They showcase the main street of Tiejiangying Village. You can see a parking section of Konggang Hospital. Images depict the evolution from sand dunes to a thriving community. Houshayu continues to grow and evolve. It is a testament to resilience and adaptation. Its story is one of transformation. A story written in sand then in concrete and steel.
