Why is this playground named Harry Maze Memorial Park? Let’s uncover the story behind this Brooklyn park. It’s more than just swings and slides. It’s a tribute to a man who served his community.

Harry Maze Memorial Park is named for Harry Maze. He was a lawyer and a Brooklyn politician. Maze represented the 23rd City Council district. He served from 1966 to 1969.

During his time on the City Council, Maze had big ideas. He proposed building a tunnel. This tunnel would connect Brooklyn to Jersey City. It would run from Atlantic Avenue to Johnston Avenue. Sadly, the tunnel plans never happened.

Maze’s career was diverse. He was an assistant district attorney. He worked in Kings County from 1947 to 1963. Later, he became an assistant deputy comptroller. He then served as a law secretary. This was for Comptroller Abraham D. Beame. Beame later became mayor. Maze worked for him until July 1971.

Harry Maze was involved in his community. He was a secretary to a State Supreme Court Justice. He led the Winthrop Community Club. He was a vice-president of the Humanity Club. Maze also sat on the Board of Trustees. This was for the Congregation of Shaari Israel.

Harry Maze Memorial Park offers accessible features. It has smooth surfaces for wheelchairs. Transfer stations are available. These help people move onto playground equipment. This makes the park inclusive for everyone.

Harry Maze Memorial Park is more than a playground. It is a place where children can play. It’s a place where families can gather. It’s a place to remember Harry Maze’s contributions. He dedicated his life to public service. He worked hard for Brooklyn. His legacy lives on in this park. The park’s address is Ave. D and Ditmas Ave. between E. 56 St. and E. 57 St.
