“A school older than a century! Can you imagine?”. Tourists often ask me about the oldest buildings in Milan. They are surprised to learn about the Scuola elementare Edmondo De Amicis. Established in 1923, the Scuola elementare Edmondo De Amicis wasn’t always a school. It began as a passion project by Michele Maria Tumminelli. Tumminelli dreamt of a place where young minds could flourish. He envisioned an institution that would equip them with the finest education. His vision came to life with the founding of the Istituti Edmondo De Amicis. The school’s growth mirrored the city’s own. By 1932, it had expanded its wings to Via Siracusa. It housed elementary classes, a Ginnasio, a Liceo Classico, and even a Liceo Scientifico. The institution quickly gained recognition for its rigorous academic standards.
