“17,857 square meters,” a child whispers, tracing the seemingly endless expanse of Kyoto City Imaike Elementary School’s grounds with their finger. “That’s bigger than two football fields!” Kyoto City Imaike Elementary School, nestled in the heart of Kyoto’s Joyo City, holds a special place in the community. Founded in April 1972 as Joyo Town Imaike Elementary School, it quickly transitioned to Kyoto City Imaike Elementary School in May 1972 following city status changes. The school’s history is one of constant growth and adaptation. In 1979, it absorbed a portion of Kyoto City Fukunari West Elementary School, expanding its reach and influence. Over the years, Kyoto City Imaike Elementary School has seen numerous improvements. A special needs class was established in 1981. School grounds greening initiatives began in 1985. Major renovations transformed the south school building in 1990 and 1991. A heating room was added in 1994, followed by north building renovations in 1996. Even with its expansive grounds, the playground still ranks third largest amongst city elementary schools, boasting an impressive 7,724 square meters. Imagine the joyful shouts of children echoing across this vast play area. From the installation of an AED in 2007 to the computer classroom upgrades in 2008, and the earthquake reinforcement of the south building in 2011, Kyoto City Imaike Elementary School stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to education. The air conditioning installation in 2017 adds a final touch of modern comfort to this vibrant hub of learning. Kyoto City Imaike Elementary School isn’t just a place of education. It is a living, breathing entity, woven into the very fabric of Joyo City, nurturing young minds and fostering a brighter future.
