Nestled in the heart of Osaka, Moriguchi City Niwaku Elementary School has witnessed over a century of growth and change. Moriguchi City Niwaku Elementary School first opened its doors in 1872 as a humble temple school. It quickly evolved, changing names several times. It went from being the 70th elementary school of Osaka Prefecture to simply Moriguchi City Niwaku Elementary School. The school expanded in 1910. A higher department was added. In 1934, a powerful typhoon, the Muroto Typhoon, caused significant damage. Nine classrooms were destroyed, forcing younger students into temporary learning spaces. Moriguchi City Niwaku Elementary School persevered. A new wooden schoolhouse rose in 1935. It reflected the community’s resilience. With the educational reforms of 1947, the school was renamed. It continued its mission to educate local children. The school’s growth continued with the addition of a lunch program in 1948 and a new two-story wooden building in 1957. Further expansions followed. East Niwaku Elementary branched off in 1962. The school added a steel-reinforced concrete building in 1966 and another new building in 1968. Kashi Elementary and Kaneda Elementary were established in 1969 and 1973 respectively. Moriguchi City Niwaku Elementary School remained a vital community hub. It embraced technological advancements. Televisions appeared in classrooms in 1982. A new pool was built in 1984. The school celebrated its centennial in 2007. The school continues to serve as a testament to the enduring power of education. It represents the community spirit of Moriguchi.
