Over 1,500 souls find solace within the walls of the Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church. This isn’t just a church; it’s a testament to faith and perseverance. The Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church began as a small outreach ministry in 1972. Known as the Tower of Faith Gospel Crusade, it held Saturday night services at the corner of Vernon and Harvard. The ministry later moved to King’s Chapel at 21st and Griffith. Under the guidance of Dr. Reuben P. Anderson, Sr., the Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church officially established itself in December 1972. The congregation, initially composed of just fifteen members, held services at the Seventh Day Adventist church on Laurel and Santa Fe. Imagine a tent revival in the summer of 1973. Fifty professions of faith later, the church family grew by thirty new members. This growth spurred the move to the church’s current location on Rosecrans Avenue in Compton. The Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church isn’t simply a place of worship. It’s a beacon of hope, aiming to save souls, build lives, and impact the community. It offers a variety of services. These include Sunday morning and Spanish services, along with Wednesday and Thursday Bible studies for all ages. The church’s website even provides recordings of past Sunday services for those unable to attend in person. The Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church even has a fascinating backstory of political battles. In the early 1990s, Pastor Anderson envisioned a grand expansion. He dreamed of a $23 million complex on the site of the old Compton Drive-In Theater. This ambitious plan included a sanctuary larger than the Crystal Cathedral, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a three-story prayer tower. Securing city approval was a two-year struggle, involving intense negotiations and even political campaigning within the church itself. Finally, the City Council overturned the Planning Commission’s denial, paving the way for the project to move forward. While the complex might not have been completed exactly as initially envisioned, the Tower of Faith Evangelistic Church continues to thrive, embodying a spirit of perseverance and faith. It stands as a testament to the dedication of its congregation and the transformative power of belief.
