It began as a vow by Archbishop Andreas Rohracher in 1944. He pledged to build a church honoring the Sacred Heart of Mary. The church became a jubilee gift to the Archbishop for his Golden Jubilee. Land and city, along with the archdiocese, contributed to its creation. Architect Franz Windhager designed Pfarrkirche Taxham. Inspired by the Second Vatican Council, he envisioned it as a “tent church”. This symbolizes God’s presence among his people, journeying with them. The church’s dedication to the Mother of God took place on October 13, 1968. Its patronal feast, Mary’s Encounter, is celebrated on July 2nd. Even the door handles tell a story. They depict scenes like the Birth of Jesus Christ, the Annunciation, and Mary’s Assumption. The right portal features the Wedding at Cana, further enriching the narrative. Inside Pfarrkirche Taxham, a sense of community prevails. The congregation gathers around the table of the Word and the sacrament. The stained-glass windows flood the space with vibrant colors. Designed by Salzburg artist Professor Karl Weiser, they depict key moments in Christ’s life. These include the Resurrection and the sending of the Holy Spirit.
