Standing before us now is Shinkoji. What echoes resonate from its ancient walls? Shinkoji, also known as 真光寺, has a history as rich as the incense that wafts through its halls.

Originally, Shinkoji was established between 848 and 851. It was founded as Jishoji Hassen-in of the Sanron sect. But the temple transformed over the centuries.

In 1336, a man named Wada Motohide, supported by Kusunoki Masashige, rebuilt it as Jishoji Temple of the Shingon sect. Later Emperor Goshirakawa admired this transformation.

A significant change occurred in 1342. Kakunyo Shonin stayed at Jishoji Temple and converted it to the Jodo Shinshu sect. This act reshaped the temple’s identity.

By 1464, Rennyo Shonin visited. He renamed the temple Shinkoji. The area itself was named Jishoji. This marked a new chapter for the temple.

Today Shinkoji continues its legacy. One unique aspect is its connection to “Otera Oyatsu Club”. This initiative supports families in need by providing food offerings from the temple.

Shinkoji is known for its engaging message board. This board often displays humorous or thought-provoking content. It attracts attention and even draws media coverage.

While Shinkoji doesn’t currently offer Goshuin stamps, it provides visitors with a commemorative stamp. It is a simple yet meaningful keepsake.

The temple’s main deity is Amida Nyorai. Shinkoji belongs to the Jodo Shinshu Honganji school. Its home page is available for those seeking more information.

People from all walks of life visit Shinkoji. Many visitors are in their 40s. The temple is also visited by families with children aged 7 to 12.

Travelers find Shinkoji a peaceful place. Many spend less than an hour here. The temple is often uncrowded. This allows for quiet contemplation.

Consider visiting nearby attractions. The Kishine Shrine and the Izumi Tamanezukuri Relics Museum are close. You can easily explore these cultural spots.

As we conclude our visit to Shinkoji remember its transformations. From its beginnings as a Sanron sect temple to its current role as a Jodo Shinshu temple, it has adapted and evolved. Shinkoji remains a beacon of faith and community support in Osaka.
