Max Bill was born in Winterthur, Switzerland in 1908. He studied as a silversmith and at the Bauhaus in Dessau. He worked as a painter, graphic designer, architect, and art historian. Bill embraced geometric abstraction from 1931. He helped promote Concrete Art. He organized exhibitions and founded the journal “abstrakt konkret”. Bill taught in Zurich and Hamburg. He is seen as the spiritual father of the Ulm School of Design. Max Bill died in Berlin in 1994.
