They are “H”, “N”, and “O”.
You’ll see replicas of the MBTA’s commuter rail. You’ll also see old electric trolleys. These meticulously crafted scenes bring Boston’s transportation history to life. It is all in miniature form. One volunteer, Mackenzie Morrison, is working on a model of the old Back Bay station. Her architecture background helps her build scale models.
The museum’s goal is simple. It promotes model railroading in the Boston area. But it offers something more profound. It offers a trip down memory lane. Visitors recognize familiar scenes. The museum expended a total of $39418. This included charitable disbursements of $19490. It also included $19928 in adjusted net income.
The museum has open houses several times a year. During these events, all three layouts are in top shape. Many trains run for your enjoyment. The museum also offers a chance to see the volunteers at work. Select Wednesday nights are open to the public.
The Bay State Model Railroad Museum now offers a “General Membership”. This membership supports the museum’s work. It promotes model railroading in the community. General members get eight free admissions per year to train shows. They also get early bookings to open houses. Admission to select Wednesday events is also included. The cost is $50 per year.
