Journey with me to the heart of North China University of Technology, to the Engineering Training Center (工程訓練中心). Established in 1978, the Engineering Training Center has witnessed remarkable growth and transformation. It started as a modest workshop, offering practical training in machining, welding, and casting. Now, the Engineering Training Center stands as a nationally recognized, state-of-the-art facility. It empowers students with cutting-edge skills across various disciplines. The Center comprises four specialized units: Engineering Training, Electronic Information Experiment, Electrical and Control Experiment, and Computer Experiment Centers. These units cater to over 20 undergraduate majors, offering multi-layered practical education. This includes specialized experiments, basic engineering training, open experimental projects, and academic competitions. The Engineering Training Center has consistently adapted to the evolving needs of industry. In 1997, it established a Digital Control Center. This innovative program became a pilot site for high-level vocational education reform, approved by both Beijing Municipality and the Ministry of Education. By 2003, the Center became a national examination hub for modern manufacturing technology application software. It also became a training center for digital machine tool operation, certified for national vocational skill qualification assessment. The Center’s success is also marked by partnerships with leading industries like the Haier Group. In 2003, the Haier Training Center was established within the university, further strengthening the connection between education and real-world application. Officially designated as a Beijing Municipal Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center in 2007, and later as a National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center in 2013, the Engineering Training Center embodies a commitment to excellence. With over 9,670 square meters of dedicated experimental teaching space, it houses more than 11,000 pieces of equipment, representing a fixed asset value exceeding 19 million yuan. Staffed by 97 dedicated educators, including 20 professors and 42 associate professors, the Center boasts a high concentration of doctoral-level expertise. Among them are recipients of prestigious awards, including the Beijing Municipal Excellent Teaching Team award, Changcheng Scholars, Beijing Teaching Masters, and Beijing Municipal High-level Talents. The Engineering Training Center embraces an integrated approach, linking faculty development, academic construction, specialized training, and laboratory development. This synergy fosters dynamic interaction and sustainable growth in both academic and practical domains.
