“Is that a ruin or part of a movie set?” you might wonder as you look at 黄台子28号敌台.

Welcome. We are standing before 黄台子28号敌台. It is a part of the Great Wall.

This section of the wall is in the Beijing Changping and Hebei Huailai border area. Construction started in the late Warring States period. It was built in 283 BC. Yan Zhao King twenty-nine initiated it.

During the Ming Dynasty, the wall was rebuilt. It was built on the base of the Yan Great Wall. So what we see today dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

This section of the Great Wall is high. Some say 黄台子 Great Wall is the highest in Beijing. The highest point is at Gaolou. It reaches an altitude of 1439 meters. Gaolou is also Beijing’s highest enemy tower. But some say that the tower near Huangcaoliang Shixinlou is higher. It is debated which is higher.

The 黄台子 Great Wall goes from southwest to northeast. It links Hengling and Dayingpan Great Walls in the southwest. In the northeast, it connects to the Shixiakou and Badaling Great Walls.

From east to west, there are towers numbered 13 to 27. These are part of the 黄台子 section. Most of them were renovated in recent years. Unfortunately, modern materials took away the original historic feel. But the good thing is that the Great Wall became stable. Its weathering slowed down. It would be great if the repairs respected the original look while making it safe.

The Great Wall bends north after Tower 27 at Gaolou. 黄台子 28 and 29 are on this section. Tower 29 is also known as the Round Tower.

黄台子28号敌台 stands with a ruinous beauty. It is a testament to history’s enduring power. Imagine soldiers once guarding this very spot. They watched for invaders. Their lives were defined by duty and vigilance. The stones beneath our feet echo with their stories.
