Established by King Chulalongkorn, the Royal Thai Naval Academy stands as a testament to his forward-thinking vision. The Royal Thai Naval Academy’s story began in 1898, not on land, but on the royal yacht Maha Chakri and other vessels donated by the king. Can you imagine learning navigation amidst the gentle rocking of a royal yacht? The academy eventually moved to Wang Derm Palace in Thonburi, then to Sattahip, before finding its permanent home here in Samut Prakan in 1952. The Royal Thai Naval Academy isn’t just about historic locations. It’s about shaping the future of the Royal Thai Navy and the Royal Thai Marine Corps. Here, cadets embark on rigorous undergraduate programs in engineering and science, interwoven with essential naval training. They specialize in fields like electrical engineering, marine engineering, hydraulic engineering, and management science. The Royal Thai Naval Academy produces not just graduates, but commissioned officers. They leave these halls as ensigns, ready to navigate the challenges of naval life. The cadets who train at the Royal Thai Naval Academy don’t just study textbooks. They also participate in the Naval Cadet Regiment, King’s Guard, divided into four battalions. This provides an added layer of discipline and leadership training, preparing them for the rigors of military service. After graduation, the journey continues. Newly commissioned officers attend a one-year advanced course in Sattahip, culminating in a graduate diploma in naval science. Their education ensures they are fully equipped to lead and serve in the Royal Thai Navy and Royal Thai Marine Corps.
