The Sumiyoshi Sports Center holds a unique piece of Osaka’s history. Originally, this land was occupied by the Kamihonchi Inspection Station. This station was part of the Osaka Municipal Subway, now known as the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line. With the line’s extension, the station closed. In its place, the Sumiyoshi Sports Center arose, transforming the space from a transport hub to a center of athletic activity. There was even talk of using this venue for the 2008 Osaka Olympics.
