The story of the Parroquia de San Ramón Nonato begins in 1903. A grieving couple, Isidro Villota y Dupré and Ramona de la Presilla y Calas, commissioned its construction. They dedicated it to the memory of their son, Ramón, who died at the young age of 24. Completed in 1907, the church initially housed the image of the Virgen del Carmen. This image was relocated from a small chapel on Calle Ramona de la Presilla, now known as Monte Igueldo. Officially established as a parish in 1910, its first economical curate was Antonio Calvo y Maestre. Remarkably, two blessed individuals, Pilar Izquierdo Albero and Álvaro del Portillo, taught catechism within these walls.
Tragedy struck the Parroquia de San Ramón Nonato during the Spanish Civil War. The parish priest, Emilio Franco, and the sacristan were executed. The original Virgen del Carmen statue, along with other sacred images, vanished. The church was desecrated, serving as a garage. Following the war, around 1939, new images were acquired. This included the current Virgen del Carmen and a crucifix. The crucifix served as the titular image for the local brotherhood until October and remains within the parish.
The Parroquia de San Ramón Nonato has seen remarkable figures serve within its walls. One such figure was Francisco Navarrete, who later became Rector of the Seminary of Madrid. The church celebrated its centennial in 2010. A special mass, presided over by Cardinal Antonio María Rouco Varela, then Archbishop of Madrid, marked the occasion. Today, the Parroquia de San Ramón Nonato continues its mission. It opens its doors from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm, offering solace and support to the community. It is easily accessible by metro and bus.
