Valley Center Community Church began with humble roots. Our story began in 1885 in Valley Center. Joseph and Hannah Sherrard founded Sherrard’s Chapel. It was a place for God’s people. They gathered to worship in this small rural community. That quaint chapel still stands today. You can find it adjacent to the cemetery on Miller Road. It serves as a testament to our humble beginnings.
As the congregation grew the church worshipped at the Community Center. It was on Lilac Road. In 1946 Valley Center Community Church secured a larger worship space. It was an old Marine Chapel building. The building was relocated to Valley Center Road. In the 1970s facilities expanded. This accommodated the growing church family. The expansion anticipated the eventual move to a permanent location.
In September 2022 Valley Center Community Church reached a milestone. The Worship Center was completed. It sits on property that the church owned for over two decades. Adjacent to this center is the Children’s Education and Administration Building. This expansion allowed for greater ministry.
Valley Center Community Church has built a reputation. It exalts God. It celebrates the work of Christ. The church is anchored in a high view of Scripture. It embraces a culture of mutual ministry. It has a deep love for the community.
The church is led by six elders. Five of whom serve as full-time pastors. They are supported by a growing number of deacons. Many office staff members help. Over a hundred volunteers serve. Valley Center Community Church remains steadfast. Its mission is to glorify God. It strives to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Valley Center Community Church offers Sunday worship at 9 am and 10:45 am. You will find ample parking. The Worship Center entrance is through the courtyard. You will be greeted. You will receive a worship bulletin.
The Sunday morning service lasts about an hour and twenty minutes. After each service people gather outside. They enjoy coffee and fellowship. Younger kids play in the gated playground. Older kids jump into a nine-square game.
There is no set dress code. Most people dress casually. The driveway entrance is at Cole Grade and Fruitvale Roads. Worship music centers around Gospel-rich songs. There is a mix of modern and time-tested hymns in a contemporary style.
Valley Center Community Church offers a Family Room. Moms can nurse their young ones. Parents can give their child wiggle room. The Family Room allows you to see into the Worship Center. You can also hear the audio through dedicated speakers. The Family Room is near the Women’s Restroom.
The church provides a safe place for nursery and preschool-age children. Children’s Sunday School is offered for Kindergarten through 5th grade. Children stay with their families for the first part of the worship service. Then they are dismissed during the greeting and fellowship time.
Valley Center Community Church uses a secure check-in and check-out procedure. This keeps your child safe. It ensures only authorized individuals pick up a child.
Jr. High and High School Sunday School meets at 10:45 am. Adult Sunday School meets at 10:45 am too. These classes provide fellowship. They allow you to grow. They cover various topics.
Now, here is an interesting fact. Martin Gang, a prominent Jewish resident, helped Valley Center Community Church. He underwrote the cost of a stained-glass memorial window. Gang supported many religious causes. He believed in the importance of the cause. A stained-glass window still recalls his memory at Valley Center Community Church.
