True Vine Baptist Church’s story began in 1865. It started in the slave quarters of the Zeringue Plantation. Reverend Thomas Peterson led the first congregation. He was also the Pastor of Zion Travelers First Baptist Church in New Orleans.

In July 1898, True Vine Baptist Church made a significant purchase. They acquired land from Pablo Sala. Sala was developing Salaville at the time. This purchase marked an important step for True Vine Baptist Church.

The railroad’s arrival changed things. It established itself across the Zeringue land. The congregation then built a church near the plantation’s boundary. This area later became known as Red Bean Row.

True Vine Baptist Church officially established itself at 249 Sala Avenue in 1897. The church faced adversity. Fires led to rebuilding in 1926 and again in 1961.

True Vine Baptist Church stands as the second oldest black church on the West Bank. It continues to hold services for its community. Pastor Wilfred Gallien Jr. leads the congregation today.

True Vine Missionary Baptist Church extends a warm invitation. “We Have A Seat For You!” Services occur every Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
