For many years the Accra Central Mosque was the place for Friday prayers. These prayers were led by the Chief Imam of Ghana. His name is Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.

Fast forward to 2020. The Vice President of Ghana Mahamudu Bawumia made a promise. He pledged to renovate the Accra Central Mosque. This was a gesture of gratitude to Allah. He believed Allah granted the New Patriotic Party victory in the 2020 election. He announced this at an Islamic Thanksgiving ceremony at the mosque. Despite the announcement renovation works are yet to commence.
