Do you smell that? It’s a mix of sandalwood, cinnamon, and something a little sweet. That’s the unmistakable aroma of incense, and we’re standing right in the heart of Le Minh Xuan, a small village in Ho Chi Minh City known for its long tradition of incense making. Le Minh Xuan has been making incense for generations. You might even say that incense making is in their blood. They say that the first incense sticks were made here way back before the 1900s. Although the villagers started by hand crafting their incense sticks, they have since modernized their methods. A machine now helps mix the powder, and drying methods using modern fans have made production quicker and more efficient. Even though things have changed in Le Minh Xuan, the village still produces some of the highest quality incense in Vietnam. What’s more, each family has its very own special method and recipe for mixing the incense powder, adding a unique aroma to the mixture. It’s a bit like a secret family recipe.
