Seventy-six meters of history. That’s the FAKT TOWER before you. Originally the Rheinstahl-Hochhaus this impressive structure stands as a testament to Essen’s post-war ambition. Built between 1958 and 1961 it was one of Essen’s first skyscrapers. The architects Albert Peter Kleinwort and Hanns Dustmann designed this marvel in the International Style inspired by American high-rises.

The FAKT TOWER wasn’t always the FAKT TOWER. It began life as the headquarters for the Rheinstahl steel company. Imagine the executives working within those walls back in 1961. They were among the first to experience the modern efficiency of a skyscraper workplace. The building boasted approximately 16000 square meters of office space spread across 22 floors. A large garage a petrol station a car wash and a workshop were added later for employee convenience. The building is a steel skeleton construction with an inner reinforced concrete core for stability. The original facade featured dark natural stone. It was a statement of modern progress a symbol of industrial power.

Later it was called the Thyssenhaus. After the ThyssenKrupp merger in 1999 the building reflected its new ownership. This building housed different sections of ThyssenKrupp until 2014. Then in 2015 the FAKT AG bought the building and started a massive renovation. The renovation cost approximately 25 million euros. It included a complete facade makeover using glass steel and aluminum in keeping with energy efficiency standards and preservation regulations. The interior was fully modernized including the replacement of all utilities. The 19th floor conference level and the foyer were kept as historical elements. The result is the sleek modern FAKT TOWER we see today.

Today the FAKT TOWER continues to serve the city of Essen. It is a symbol of resilience and adaptation. It demonstrates how a building can reinvent itself while retaining its original grandeur. This building has witnessed decades of change. It remains a significant part of Essen’s landscape. Its transformation from industrial giant to modern office space shows the spirit of the Ruhr region. The FAKT TOWER’s story is a story of Essen itself. A story of industrial might innovative spirit and enduring legacy.
