Did you know Lake Poway almost didn’t exist? Lake Poway in Poway California is a beautiful place. It’s a reservoir and dam. The city of Poway owns it. It was built between 1970 and 1972. The plan was to provide water and recreation. But the project faced setbacks. Voters rejected a $3.2 million bond twice. It finally passed in 1969. Construction began in 1970. Water filled the reservoir in 1971. Recreational facilities opened in October 1972. Lake Poway wasn’t just a construction project. It was a community effort a testament to perseverance. Today Lake Poway provides year-round fishing. You can catch trout bass catfish sunfish and bluegill. The lake even boasts impressive catch records. A 47-pound blue catfish was caught in 2017.
