Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park spans 9.5 acres. It is a peaceful retreat amidst the bustling city of Los Angeles. It provides ample space for outdoor activities.

The park’s story has an electrifying beginning. More than ten years ago, a wild electrical storm struck Filmore Park. The community building was hit by lightning and caught fire.

Christine Washington, the park director, said that the community rallied together. They fought to have more services added to the park.

From the ashes of that fire, a new Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park arose. The community made a difference. The park now boasts the largest indoor basketball gymnasium in the Valley. It seats 850 people. Imagine the roar of the crowd during a heated game.

While the gymnasium was under construction, the community pushed for a 50-meter swimming pool. It is the only public pool in the north Valley open year-round. The pool is a vibrant hub of activity.

After the improvements, the park was renamed for former Vice President Hubert Humphrey. It became a place for sports and recreation.

Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park also hosts one of the largest latch-key programs in the Valley. It serves more than 40 youngsters whose parents cannot afford day care. It is more than just a park, it’s a vital community resource.

There are sports and fitness programs at Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park. You can do soccer, softball, dance, martial arts and volleyball. How about baseball, cheer, basketball, golf, gymnastics, fitness exercise, or flag football?

The park also has cultural programs. Afterschool programs, classes and special events are scheduled. Community courses on cooking, crafts and exercise are also available.

Hubert H. Humphrey Memorial Park offers various facilities. A baseball diamond and basketball courts are all lighted. There is also a children’s play area. You can find handball courts, picnic tables, a Futbolito Court, a kitchen, and a stage here. There is even a Teen Center.

The park is easily accessible with well-maintained paths and trails. It is suitable for walking and running. The park offers diverse terrains to suit all levels of walkers and runners.

During the spring and fall, the weather is mild and comfortable. You might see various bird species, squirrels, and rabbits. Remember to observe them from a distance.
