It lies in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Formerly known as Moorrege, Geest und Marsch S\u00fcdholstein adopted its current name on January 1, 2017. The seat of the Amt is in Heist.

Geest und Marsch S\u00fcdholstein offers a unique blend of peaceful living and convenient access to nearby cities. These include Uetersen, Elmshorn, and Pinneberg. Hamburg is also within easy reach. This makes it an attractive residential area.

The Amt comprises ten municipalities. It covers an area of 137.7 square kilometers. As of December 31, 2023, it had a population of 24,271. This equates to a population density of 176 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Geographically, Geest und Marsch S\u00fcdholstein sits in the southern part of Schleswig-Holstein. It is west of Hamburg. The Amt borders Elmshorn-Land to the north. To the west lies the Elbe river. The cities of Wedel and Uetersen border it to the south and east, respectively.

The nearest railway line is the Tornesch–Uetersen line. Tornesch provides connections to Hamburg-Altona and Kiel. Wedel also offers train services to Hamburg-Altona.

The history of Geest und Marsch S\u00fcdholstein is interesting. Originally, the Amt was named Moorrege. It included the six municipalities of Gro\u00df Nordende, Heidgraben, Heist, Holm, Moorrege, and Neuendeich. On July 1, 2006, Appen joined the Amt.

A significant change occurred on April 1, 2015. The Amt began to be managed by a full-time Amtsdirektor. This altered the role of the Amtsvorsteher. They now perform duties similar to a B\u00fcrgervorsteher. They are no longer the head of administration.

Further restructuring took place on January 1, 2017. The Amt Haseldorf dissolved. Its three municipalities, Haselau, Haseldorf, and Hetlingen, joined the Amt. This led to the renaming of the Amt to Geest und Marsch S\u00fcdholstein.

In March 2022, the Amt administration moved to a newly constructed Amtshaus. This is located in the neighboring municipality of Heist. Geest und Marsch S\u00fcdholstein is more than just a location. It is a vibrant community. It balances rural tranquility with urban connectivity. Its history reflects ongoing adaptation and growth.
