“Northway Baptist Church,” a monument to faith and community, stands before us. Its humble beginnings date back to a mission sponsored by the Sheldon Road Baptist Church in Channelview, Texas, on January 8, 1969. Those early services were held in a civic center off Mt. Houston Road, later transforming into a frame building on the Eastex Freeway. On October 10, 1969, the mission was officially organized into a church at Sheldon Road Baptist Church, marking the start of a new chapter in the history of Northway Baptist Church. They welcomed their first pastor, Bro. Ron Lee, and 36 members. With the dedication and growth of the congregation, they relocated to Bender Road in Humble, where they merged with Greenlee Baptist Church in February 1972. Northway Baptist Church continued to grow and evolve, embarking on a journey of faith and fellowship. They merged with Lakeland Baptist of Humble, Tx, in July 2009, continuing to share the name of Northway Baptist Church. The church’s journey continued, leading them to relocate to their present location at 5801 FM 1960 E in Atascocita (Humble, TX), after deciding to change their name to Lakeway Baptist Church in October 2009. As we stand here in front of Northway Baptist Church, we can feel the legacy of faith and dedication that has paved the way for this vibrant community. Through the years, the congregation has faced challenges and celebrated triumphs, always embracing the spirit of unity and perseverance. Northway Baptist Church has truly become a beacon of hope and inspiration for the community.
