A small unassuming building stands before you. This is the Nippon Kirisuto Kyodan Osaka Myokoji Church. It may not look like much but its history is rich and full of life.
Established on December 1 1957 it began as a small family gathering. It was held at the home of Reverend Miyoko Hirakata. This was a home gathering for the Ogimachi Church. In June 1959 the church moved. It moved to the home of Miyakojima Church member Hisano Shirakawa. The church was then officially recognized as a Miyakojima mission.
The current building was purchased in November 1962. A baby center opened in 1963. This served the community for thirty years. The center closed at the end of March 1993. The building was then renovated. The current chapel was built in September 1997. A Second Class Church was also established in December 2001.
Despite its size the Myokoji Church is vibrant. It is known for its relatively young congregation. It is a place of life and love. The church actively works against prejudice. It strives to be a welcoming and open community.
The church offers various community programs. They have a monthly meeting on mental illness. This meeting is held on the third Tuesday of every month. They also have a support group for people with developmental disabilities. This meets on the fourth Sunday of each month.
Beyond its religious activities the Myokoji Church is involved in cult deprogramming. Pastors offer help to those seeking escape from harmful groups.
