Picture this. A vibrant community thriving in Belleville Michigan. This is the story of Open Arms Church. It began humbly. A small group with a big dream. They envisioned a place of worship a beacon of hope. They wanted a church that served people shared Jesus and sent out servants.

Open Arms Church wasn’t always located where it stands today. It started with just a handful of dedicated individuals. Their faith and vision were the foundation. They worked tirelessly. They prayed fervently. They sought God’s guidance. They wanted a pastor to lead them. A pastor who would embrace their mission. A pastor who would guide lost souls to their fledgling church family.

Even before their first service at the Wayne County Fair Grounds construction began. Originally known as Bethlehem Lutheran Church. They secured loans. They purchased land. They built a facility. This facility would also house the Open Arms Child Development Center. This center became a vital part of the church’s mission.

On Easter in 2003 the new facility was dedicated. A joyous celebration. A worship service filled with hope. Just over a month later the first families enrolled their children in the daycare. The church building wasn’t quite ready. So the pastor opened his home. He welcomed the children into his own house. Bethlehem was then renamed Open Arms Lutheran Church. This was done to avoid confusion. The ministry quickly expanded.

By 2004 enrollment and interest in the child care center soared. They needed more space. They added two wings. Eight new classrooms joined the original four. Many families enrolled their children. Many of these families became members of the church. They are members even today. Others who helped build Open Arms have moved on. Their contributions will never be forgotten. The mission though remains unchanged.

Open Arms Church continues to serve its community. It shares Jesus’ love. It equips and sends out its members. It strives to make following Jesus a desire for everyone. Today Open Arms Church stands as a testament to faith perseverance and the power of community. It is a place where people find hope. A place where they are loved. A place where they grow. A place where they are sent out to make a difference in the world.
