Elegant and poised the Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque stands as a testament to Dubai’s rich cultural tapestry. Have you ever wondered about the stories held within its walls? This magnificent mosque, often called Al Farooq Mosque, is not just a place of worship. It is a beacon of Islamic art and culture.

Al Farooq Mosque opened its doors in 2011. Khalaf Al Habtoor gifted it to the people of Dubai. He wanted to create a space where Muslims could worship and non-Muslims could learn about Islam.

Notice the four picturesque minarets that rise high into the sky. Each minaret has a tiny gold crescent moon at the top. These twinkle in the sun. At night, they serve as guiding beacons for those who come to pray. These structures stand 60 meters tall. They were originally built for the Mu’azzin to announce the Azan or call to prayer.

Take a closer look at the tiered dome. This architectural style is rare in the UAE. The design draws inspiration from the Ottoman and Byzantine styles of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul. The Blue Mosque combines Byzantine elements of the Hagia Sophia with traditional Islamic design.

The Al Farooq Mosque may be smaller than the Blue Mosque. However, it possesses its own unique character. Its pristine white walls reflect the sunlight. This creates a serene and inviting atmosphere.

Step inside Al Farooq Mosque and be amazed by the ornate interior. Expert artists and craftsmen from Fez, Morocco, created this majestic space. The finest materials were used in its construction.

Blue light streams through the elegant stained-glass windows. It illuminates the intricate Islamic designs. Verses from the Quran are featured on the Mihraab domes and pillars. Look up at the roof. You will see more intricate designs covering the domes. A stately chandelier hangs in the center. The dome rises approximately 30 metres in height. It catches the light and sparkles. Dozens of copper lanterns provide additional light.

Muhammad Anwar Srifi says the interior design was influenced by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. It also draws inspiration from Andalusian designs. Andalusian art dates back to 711. That is when the Moors first landed in southern Spain. The colorful tiles and shapes used in the interior design show this influence.

Much of the interior uses plaster of Paris. However, it also incorporates fusaifisa tiles. These tiles are heated, shaped, sculpted, and hand-painted. They come from Fez, Morocco where Andalusian art originated.

The Mihrab is a work of art. Its circular form is clad with fusaifisa tiles. The hand-woven pure wool carpets add a warm touch. They feature traditional Islamic designs and were manufactured in Germany.

Al Farooq Mosque accommodates over 2,000 worshipers. It welcomes non-Muslims and women at certain times. A prayer room is specifically designed for women. It allows them to see into the main prayer section without being seen.

Attached to the mosque is a religious center. It educates visitors and residents on religious, cultural, and historical topics. The center includes a library and a lecture hall with audio-video equipment. Regular lectures are held in both Arabic and English. They focus on Islam and a wide range of other subjects.

The Al Farooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque stands as a symbol of peace and cultural understanding. It reflects Dubai’s commitment to religious tolerance and education. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty and significance of this remarkable landmark.
