On a sunny morning in San Antonio, Texas, a group of determined Christians gathered with a shared vision. They sought to establish a beacon of faith and hope for the Mexican community. Their dream took root on June 7, 1935, with the founding of the Antioch Mexican Baptist Church. The church was initially located at the corner of Hayes and Gevers Streets. The church’s journey took an unexpected turn when their first pastor, Reverend Rufus Wilson, led them to a tent on Center Street. This humble setting became their temporary home thanks to the generosity of a church member, James Parker. Their spirit undeterred, the congregation persevered, eventually finding a more permanent location – an abandoned dairy on Walters Street. This unlikely sanctuary, after much-needed renovations, became the new home of the Antioch Mexican Baptist Church. The Antioch Mexican Baptist Church, true to its namesake, embraced the spirit of the early Christian community in Antioch. The church welcomed people from all walks of life, fostering a vibrant community united by their shared faith. Under the leadership of Reverend Wilson, the church underwent a significant renovation in 1947, a testament to their growth and commitment.
