“Ready your flashlights adventurers.” The New Moon Water Cave – Rear Exit awaits. This is not just any cave. The New Moon Water Cave is a journey into the heart of Yangshuo’s most extensive subterranean world.

For nearly ten years the New Moon Water Cave has been open to those seeking natural beauty. It is located two kilometers from Moon Hill in a small village. Imagine this cave stretching six kilometers. It runs through eight mountains.

During World War II, local villagers sought refuge here from the invading Japanese army. The name “Moon Water Cave” comes from a stalagmite inside that resembles the Maitreya. Locals believed the cave was secure. Some parts remain off-limits even today.

The New Moon Water Cave is full of narrow and maze-like passages. Some are dangerous. Even in open areas, injuries have occurred. Always use a guide and a flashlight. Prepare to crawl through muddy holes. Climb stalagmites and sidle between stalactites using ropes and ladders.

Inside the New Moon Water Cave, an unaltered subterranean microcosm awaits you. Listen to the stalactite “drums”. Await the sight of an underground waterfall pool. You can even bathe and swim here. Bring your swimsuit and towel for this refreshing experience.

There are two tour options in the New Moon Water Cave. The first tour takes about 90 minutes. You will see stalactites, stalagmites, fossils, fish, and bats. Take a boat or swim. Enjoy a shower under the waterfall. The second tour lasts two to three hours. You will visit the entire New Moon Water Cave. This trip requires a flashlight. It is excellent for river walking. Be prepared for a wet and muddy adventure.

The New Moon Water Cave is perfect for adventurous travelers. It is also good for your body. The water is about 0.5 meters deep. It has a gentle flow that is clean and safe.

You will find the New Moon Water Cave in Pingtang Village. It is located 1.5 kilometers from Gaotian Town. The New Moon Water Cave opens at 8:30 am and closes at 5:30 pm. It is a must-see destination.
