Swami Haridhos Giri dreamt of Pandharpur. This dream led him to establish the Pandurangan Koil in Thennangur, Tamil Nadu. Pandurangan Koil offers a peaceful sanctuary. It’s a place where the name of the Lord echoes through devotional chanting, known as Namasankirtan. The Pandurangan Koil’s story begins with divine inspiration. Swami Haridhos Giri, a key figure in the Namasankirtan movement, embarked on a pilgrimage to Maharashtra. There, a divine dream guided him to Pandharpur. In Pandharpur, he received a small idol of Lord Panduranga from the temple there. He brought this sacred idol back to Thennangur. He installed it as the central deity of the newly built Pandurangan Koil. The temple has been a beacon for devotees ever since. Pandurangan Koil is easily accessible. Located on the Kanchipuram-Vandavasi road, the temple is approximately 35 km from Kanchipuram and a short 6 km from Vandavasi. The serene atmosphere adds to the spiritual experience. The temple’s architecture is a beautiful blend of Dravidian and Chalukyan styles. The gopurams, the main entrance, and the detailed murals of the Maha Mandapam are visually stunning. The sanctum sanctorum houses the idols of Lord Panduranga and Rakhumayi, adorned in silk and jewels. The vimana, the temple tower, bears a resemblance to the one at the Puri Jagannath temple. Four prakaras, or enclosures, surround the temple. These are lined with flowering plants and serve as the pathways for processions during major festivals. The daily Namasankirtan sessions at Pandurangan Koil are a highlight. Devotees gather in the Sabha Mandapam to sing praises of the Lord. Festivals like Ashadi Ekadashi and Kartik Ekadashi bring the temple to life with vibrant processions, music, and fervent devotees. The daily Kalyana Utsavam, the sacred wedding ceremony of Govindaraja Perumal and his consorts, represents a unique fusion of Vedic and Bhajan traditions.
