Ever wondered where the lifeblood of Samarkand’s agriculture flows? It originates right here in Akdarya District. Akdarya is more than just a name. It is a story etched in the land. It is whispered by the waters that nourish it. We are about to explore this vibrant district.

Akdarya District was established on December 25, 1968. This area covers 0.39 thousand square kilometers. This may seem small. Yet, Akdarya’s impact is significant.

The district’s name comes from the Akdarya River. Academic V.V. Bartold noted its connection to the flowing waters of Aksuv or Akdarya. These waters flow through Karasuv or Karadarya. Vyatkin added that mountain rivers are known as Aksuv or Akdarya. The Akdarya River stretches 131 km. It forms a major part of the Zarafshan River. This river is the district’s namesake and its lifeline.

Akdarya is home to many settlements. There are 10 urban-type settlements. The heart of the district is Laish town. It also includes 36 neighborhood citizens’ assemblies. These comprise 12 municipalities and 6 citizens’ meetings. Ninety-two village settlements dot the landscape.

As of January 1, 2016, Akdarya had 146,812 permanent residents. 59,007 lived in urban areas. 87,805 resided in rural areas. This makes it a vibrant mix of urban and rural life. Akdarya District is 36 km from Samarkand.

Akdarya shares borders with several other districts. These include Ishtikhan, Samarkand, Payarik, Jomboy, and Pastdargom. This location makes it a crucial link in the region’s network.

Today, Qudratov Sherzod Asadovich governs Akdarya. His office is located in Laish Town. The address is 39 Amir Temur Street.

Akdarya District represents the rich tapestry of Samarkand. From its life-giving river to its dynamic communities, it embodies the spirit of Uzbekistan. As we conclude our visit, remember Akdarya. It is a place where water shapes both the land and the lives of its people.
