The temple was destroyed by fire but the foundation remained strong. The builders of the 四方塔 integrated the old foundation into the structure and used the materials from the temple to construct the pagoda. The four-sided pagoda stands as a symbol of resilience, a testament to the city’s ability to rise from the ashes. It is a constant reminder that knowledge accumulated over time has the power to shape the future, just as it shaped Chengdu.
