Two churches the Brooklyn Heights Presbyterian established in 1921 and the Golden Hill Presbyterian established in 1956 joined forces in 1981. This union created the vibrant church we see today. The Golden Hill Presbyterian Church founded in 1956 by Reverend Doctor George Walker Smith deserves special mention. Reverend Smith a pioneering figure in San Diego was the city’s first Black school board member. He championed human rights and built a congregation that reflected his values. His legacy continues to inspire the church’s commitment to social justice.
Christ United Presbyterian Church isn’t merely a place of worship. It’s a community hub. It hosts a Neighborhood House Head Start program and the McGill School of Success. It also partners with the San Diego Rescue Mission leading worship services and providing mentorship. The church actively engages with the community supporting those in need.
