Hidden just north of the E411 motorway lies Avenue Louis Dehoux, a relatively young addition to Auderghem. Avenue Louis Dehoux officially appeared on the map in 1986. Its location, north of the bustling E411 motorway, has created a unique situation. Only one side of Avenue Louis Dehoux has buildings. The avenue begins abruptly in the middle of Avenue Demey, which confusingly continues on the other side of the motorway. This often causes confusion for those unfamiliar with the area. Interestingly, only one address exists on Avenue Louis Dehoux: number 25. Avenue Louis Dehoux isn’t just a street. It’s a memorial. This street honors Louis Dieudonné Eugène Dehoux, a Brussels native and World War I hero. Dehoux served as a volunteer sergeant in the 4th Regiment of Chasseurs à Pied. He tragically lost his life on the battlefield at Westrozebeke. Dehoux was a resident of Auderghem, the very municipality where the avenue bearing his name now stands. If you happen to visit Avenue Louis Dehoux, take a moment to reflect on the sacrifice of this brave soldier. The Demey metro station is conveniently located nearby, making this poignant piece of Auderghem’s history easily accessible.
