Did the Elbblickturm always offer such breathtaking views? No. Let’s journey back to the Wildpark Schwarze Berge before 2017. A 31-meter wooden tower stood where this steel giant now rises. For 30 years, it offered stunning views of the Elbe and Hamburg’s skyline. But time and nature took their toll. The trees grew taller, obscuring the panorama. Maintaining the wooden structure became increasingly difficult and expensive. So, the park made a bold decision. They replaced the old wooden tower with the Elbblickturm you see today. This 45-meter steel marvel was completed in just three months. Over 140 tons of steel and nearly 16 tons of wood went into its construction. The Elbblickturm is not just taller. It’s also thoughtfully designed. For those with a fear of heights, resting platforms every 10 meters offer a chance to catch their breath and still enjoy the view. From the top, after climbing 288 steps, the panorama is truly spectacular. You can see across Rosengartenwald, Kiekeberg, the Elbe valley, Hamburg’s harbor, Blankenese, and even the Köhlbrandbrücke.
