Time to step into the story of Bowles Grove Park. Once upon a time in the 1920s and 1930s Bowles Grove was a local favorite. It was located south of Bowles Avenue and west of the Platte. It was a place of dense woods. A sole carriage trail and numerous walking paths cut through it.
Today Bowles Grove Park is a 20-acre park in Littleton. It is located on Federal Blvd just north of Bowles Ave. You will find it across from the Littleton Golf Course. There is also a tennis bubble nearby.
Bowles Grove Park might not have a playground. But it does offer some great features. A fishing pond invites anglers. A baseball field stands ready for games. Two multipurpose fields offer space for various sports.
Let’s talk about parking at Bowles Grove Park. You can find a parking lot near the Centennial Academy of Fine Arts. It’s just off West Berry Avenue. The main parking lot is off South Federal Boulevard. There are over 75 spaces including 4 handicapped spaces. This should be enough even when games are happening.
The baseball field is on the northern side of Bowles Grove Park. It’s about 500 feet from the main parking lot. This ballfield is one of the nicer ones in Littleton. It has a scoreboard in the outfield. Outfield fencing and lights make it even better. The outfield fence is 285 feet from home plate.
There are two bleachers with 3 rows each. Neither has any shade. Each dugout has a bench and a shade cover. Parents should bring sunscreen or an umbrella. A porta potty sits in the shade on the left side. It is seasonal so it might not be there in winter.
Multipurpose Field 1 is north of the main parking lot. Multipurpose Field 2 is west of the main parking lot. At least one field has painted lines and soccer goalposts. Any game from football to soccer can be played here. A fence adjacent to Multipurpose Field 2 lets you hit baseballs.
There is plenty of space for other activities in Bowles Grove Park. If games are happening head west of the main parking lot. That area is likely to be empty. Sidewalks lead from the parking lot to the baseball field. They also go along the pond.
Bowles Grove Pond is directly south of the parking lot. It is a little larger than an acre. Fishing is permitted here. It has a couple of water fountains and an island. A tree grows in the middle of the island. The pond isn’t as big as Ketring Lake. But it can still make for a fun day. The pond reportedly has rainbow trout. You might also find crappie largemouth bass bluegill and perch.
Friday and Sunday are the busiest days at Bowles Grove Park. Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday are the least busy. The busiest time is 3 PM Friday through Sunday. The least busy times are 6 AM and 11 PM. For the rest of the days 8 AM or the afternoon are most crowded. 8 PM is the best time to visit Bowles Grove Park.
Bowles Grove Park offers a unique experience in winter. Watching snowflakes fall over the water is relaxing. As Eli Lemberg said “There is a lovely little lake with Canadian Geese and foliage”. The park itself has a lovely walking path. It’s a nicely maintained suburban park.
