Within these walls, the heart of Athens’ metro and tram network beats. Urban Rail Transport S.A., or STASY, isn’t just another company. It’s a story woven from the threads of Athens’ past, a testament to the city’s constant evolution. Before STASY, three separate entities ran the show. Line 1, the veteran, was under the Athens-Piraeus Electric Railways (ISAP), a company dating back to 1976, born from the privatization of the Hellenic Electric Railways. Lines 2 and 3, the modern siblings, were overseen by Attiko Metro Operation Company (AMEL), established in 2001. And then there was Tram S.A., also a 2001 creation. In 2011, these three merged, their individual logos and histories combining to form STASY. The ISAP oval and the AMEL blue and green now symbolize a unified network.
