Nestled in the heart of Guangzhou, the Kuangquan Subdistrict, better known as 礦泉街道, whispers tales of hot springs and bustling communities. 礦泉街道, meaning “Mineral Spring Street,” earned its name from a warm mineral spring located on Guang Hua Road within its borders. This vibrant subdistrict, covering approximately 3.01 square kilometers, is home to around 77,500 people. 礦泉街道 boasts fourteen distinct communities, each with its unique story. From the bustling Jichang Section Community to the historic Wangsheng Temple Community, 礦泉街道’s rich tapestry of neighborhoods paints a vivid picture of Guangzhou’s past. Established on June 1, 1981, 礦泉街道 has seen its administrative oversight shift over the years. Originally under the jurisdiction of Guangzhou’s suburban district, it later fell under Baiyun District. Finally, in 2005, 礦泉街道 became part of Yuexiu District. This transition reflects the subdistrict’s growing importance within the city. The very location of 礦泉街道’s office moved in 2005, relocating from 360 Guangyuan West Road to its current address at 13 Shacun South Road. This physical move symbolizes the constant evolution and development within 礦泉街道. 礦泉街道’s history stretches back to the Ming and Qing dynasties when it belonged to the Enzhou Township of Nanhai County. In 1930, it became part of Guangzhou City. The area evolved from the Taichung Township to a high-level agricultural cooperative in 1956 and then an agricultural production team in 1958. In a fascinating turn, the name changed to Xingguang Brigade in 1968 before finally becoming 礦泉街道 in 1981. Standing here, amidst the modern cityscape, it’s hard to imagine the rural landscapes that once defined this area. Yet, 礦泉街道 retains a strong connection to its past. The community names, such as Taichung, Songgang, and Shacun South, echo the subdistrict’s agricultural heritage. 礦泉街道 stands as a microcosm of Guangzhou’s transformation, a blend of old and new, tradition and modernity. It’s a place where the echoes of ancient hot springs mingle with the rhythms of a thriving urban center, a place where 77,500 lives intertwine to create a unique and vibrant community.
