Here at Endesa, energy is more than just electricity. It’s a story of Spain’s evolution. This company shaped the nation’s power. Let’s uncover Endesa’s Madrid story.

Endesa began as Empresa Nacional de Electricidad S.A. It was 1944. Spain needed power after the Civil War. Esteban Terradas was the first president. Juan Granell Pascual was the first CEO.

Initially, Endesa addressed electricity shortages. The company bought ten mobile units. These “Electricity Firefighters” tackled supply issues. They served Seville, Barcelona, and Mallorca.

In 1997, the company changed its name to Endesa S.A. It reflected its growing role. The company modernized and expanded. Endesa became a key player in Spain’s energy sector.

Endesa faced takeover bids in the 2000s. Gas Natural tried first. Then German E.ON and Italian Enel competed. Eventually, Enel and Acciona succeeded. Enel later increased its stake. Today, Enel owns a majority share of Endesa.

Endesa is one of Spain’s top three electricity companies. It works with Iberdrola and Naturgy. Together, they dominate the national electricity market. Endesa handles electricity generation, distribution, and sales. It also deals in natural gas and renewable energy. Enel Green Power helps with renewables.

In 2016, Endesa acquired 60% of Enel Green Power Spain. This boosted its renewable energy efforts. Enel Green Power Spain manages many plants. These plants include hydroelectric, wind, solar, and biomass facilities.

Endesa also focuses on electric vehicles. It participates in European projects. These projects develop technology for electric vehicle infrastructure. Endesa promotes sustainable mobility.

The company launched an ambitious recharging plan. It aims to install 8,500 public points. It will also install over 100,000 private points. This makes electric vehicle travel easier.

Endesa has an Electric Mobility Plan for Employees. It encourages staff to drive electric vehicles. This reduces the company’s carbon footprint.

Juan Sánchez-Calero Guilarte is the current Chairman. José D. Bogas Gálvez is the CEO. They lead Endesa into the future. They navigate challenges and seek growth.

Endesa’s history shows Spain’s energy transformation. From humble beginnings to a multinational corporation. Endesa powers homes and businesses. It drives innovation in renewable energy. Endesa remains a vital part of Spain’s infrastructure. Its story is far from over. It continues to evolve.
